We are all challenged to reflect on
these questions while becoming more aware of the purpose of our life in
God's eyes and will. Bringing more awareness of Vocations to our parish
members is one goal of the newly formed Catholic Identity or Vocations
Team.
One way to promote vocation awareness is through
the CHALICE PROGRAM.
This special program allows any parish
member or family the opportunity of taking home a sacred Chalice for one
week. This Chalice is accompanied by a binder of individual prayers
dealing with Vocations to the Priesthood, Religious Life, Lay Ministry,
Marriage, and the Single Life. Each week a family or individual is
given the chalice at one of the weekend Masses. They process out, with
the Chalice, and bring it home to display in a prominent place.
Throughout the week the individual or family is
asked to spend time talking about vocations as well as praying for those
in our own parish community who are contemplating vocations, entering
into religious study, or for all who may be discerning a call from the
Lord.
Comments from the host family are written
down in a "Reflection" section of the binder for others to read and
contemplate. Some families have shared that the presence of the Chalice
in their home has brought about greater unity, has opened up
conversations around vocations, has given their children a greater sense
of belonging to the Church community, and has made them more aware of
the need to pray for vocations regularly.
