Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and
RCIC Adapted for Children ages 7-16
"Through the sacraments of Christian initiation men and women are
freed from the power of darkness. With Christ they die, are buried and
rise again. They received the Spirit of adoption, which makes them God’s
sons and daughters, and, with the entire people of God, they celebrate
the memorial of the Lord’s death and resurrection." (Vatican Council II,
Ad Gentes, 14). The parish community serves as the primary ministers of
the Christian Initiation Process. The ministers include sponsors,
godparents, hospitality, catechists, and liturgical ministers. Together
with the involvement of the parish community, the catechumens and
candidates become aware of their baptismal commitment to be rooted in
the ministry of Jesus and to respond to His call to live out the gospel
mandate in their daily lives.
